The plot is simple, visceral, and horrifying. The narrator is a successful but sadistic advertising executive in his late twenties. After a painful breakup, he realizes he is addicted to emotional cruelty. To cope with his own self-loathing, he deliberately seduces "vulnerable, insecure women" only to emotionally destroy them for sport.
