When a user entered a valid serial number (e.g., 666-69696969) during installation, Revit 2009 generated a unique request code (e.g., kp51 yg2u kq7qrarl ) based on the machine’s hardware ID. This code had to be submitted to Autodesk’s activation server (or via an offline manual process) to obtain a corresponding authorization code . The request code algorithm used a 16-byte encrypted hash combining volume serial number, network adapter MAC address, and product ID. Without a valid authorization code from Autodesk, the software remained in trial mode or refused to run.
