When twelve mysterious, shell-shaped spacecraft land in different locations across the globe, the world is plunged into uncertainty. To prevent a global conflict, the U.S. military recruits elite linguist and theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly to lead a team at a landing site in Montana.
As I watched, Louise, along with physicist Ian Donnelly (played by Jeremy Renner), began to unravel the mysteries of the aliens' language. The creatures, who referred to themselves as "heptapods," communicated through a complex system of symbols and non-linear storytelling.
