Unlike other movies with generic villain-of-the-week plots, Blood Prison explores themes of betrayal, institutional corruption, and the weight of a jinchuriki's reputation. Naruto loses his Kyuubi cloak, his shadow clones, and his usual loud confidence. He is forced to rely on pure cunning, forming unlikely alliances with prisoners like Ryūzetsu (a kunoichi with a mysterious kekkei genkai) and Mui (the sadistic warden).
