The movie revolves around Ishaan Awasthi (played by Darsheel Safary), an 8-year-old boy who is misunderstood by his parents and teachers due to his learning difficulties. He is labeled as a weak student and is on the verge of being held back in class. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Ram Shankar Nikumbh (played by Aamir Khan), a temporary art teacher at his school.
